Training & Development

The training and development committee oversees the CYCA's successful Youth Sailing Academy sponsored by Audi Australia, a training facility for 12-24 year olds (see Youth Sailing Academy under Sailing).

The committee sets policy for the Academy's operation, assists in identifying sponsorship, provides guidelines for future direction and assists with upgrading and long-term planning of resources.

Committee members also assist in recruiting club members to support the voice of youth to the CYCA board and provide direction on appropriate training to ensure that CYCA boat owners requirements are met.

Finally, the committee is responsible for overseeing and approving the annual program of regattas and training courses and for creating an environment where boat owners and youth sailors can be paired.

 The Mission of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia Youth Sailing Academy is to;

  • Introduce youth to the sport of keel boat sailing regardless of their race, religion, or socio economic background.
  • Provide world class coaching to students over all disciplines of sailing
  • Provide students with the opportunity to represent the CYCA at Club, State, National and International sailing regatta’s
  • Introduce youth to the benefits of membership to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia
  • Encourage students to become involved in ocean yacht racing
  • Have fun, learn to love the sport for life and encourage others to participate
