AFR Midnight Rambler wins slow Lion Island Botany Bay Race

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's 60 nautical mile Lion Island-Botany Bay race was won by the Ed Psaltis/Bob Thomas/Michael Bencsik owned AFR Midnight Rambler and will long be remembered for the time it took and the patience required - it became a midnight ramble for the five at the tail-end of the fleet, while three others packed it in, unable to deal with the fickle conditions. LDV Comanche secures line honours and the race record

Sport is often determined by fine margins and yachting is no exception. After a phenomenal contest between Jim Cooney’s LDV Comanche and the Oatley family’s Wild Oats XI over the full 628nm of the Rolex Sydney Hobart concluded yesterday in the Derwent River, the line honours title for first to finish was eventually decided today in the protest room. An incident between the two 100-footers, shortly after the start, was adjudged in favour of LDV Comanche.

Black Jack makes the most of cards dealt

SOLAS Big Boat Challenge, Tuesday 11 December - Spectator Ferry

Get on board MV Coast for another first class day of champagne sailing for the famous SOLAS Big Boat Challenge, the precursor to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
 
MV Coast will again be front and centre on the race course for one of the great days on Sydney Harbour, the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge. This is a day not to be missed, no exclusion zone racing means up close and action packed viewing.

Coast welcomes back all our regular sailing aficionados, sailing friends and family of the race competitors. This is the classic Sydney yacht race day. Our first-class commentary team and crew will make your day a memorable one.

Cruise details
Coast will pick up guests at King Street Wharf, No. 9 dock, Darling Harbour, at 10.15am on December 11, and return approximately 3.00pm. Tickets are $60.00, and $50.00 for CYCA members, ticket price includes a welcome glass of sparkling and a snack on board. A CYCA pick up and drop will be advise should there be sufficient demand
