Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship: Double Celebration for Victoire

Darryl Hodgkinson and his crew on Victoire had two causes for celebration this afternoon after taking Division 1 of the Lion Island Race in Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s annual Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship (SSORC).

The Victoire crew stepped ashore for a quick celebratory drink after defeating their nemesis, Patrice (Tony Kirby), by one minute and seven seconds overall and local hero, Nine Dragons, Bob Cox’s DK46. It was quick as Hodgkinson’s long term principal helmsman, Sean Kirkjian, rushed away to pick up his wife and brand new baby boy Alex from hospital.

LDV Comanche secures line honours and the race record

Sport is often determined by fine margins and yachting is no exception. After a phenomenal contest between Jim Cooney’s LDV Comanche and the Oatley family’s Wild Oats XI over the full 628nm of the Rolex Sydney Hobart concluded yesterday in the Derwent River, the line honours title for first to finish was eventually decided today in the protest room. An incident between the two 100-footers, shortly after the start, was adjudged in favour of LDV Comanche.

Black Jack makes the most of cards dealt

SOLAS Big Boat Challenge Spectator Vessel

The team from Coast Cruises will once again run a spectator vessel for the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge, Tuesday 10 December. Tickets are $65.00 each or $50.00 for CYCA members and ticket price includes a welcome glass of sparkling and a snack on board. BOOK TODAY
