Hell Razor wins Milson Memorial Cup

Prominent Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron member Ian MacDiarmid sailed his harbour racing yacht Hell Razor to a somewhat rare victory for a RSYS boat in the Squadron’s historic Milson Memorial Cup with David Forbes' Merlin scoring a fine line honours win

In recent years, results of the Milson Memorial Cup, one of three short ocean races conducted each year by the Squadron, have been dominated by Cruising Yacht Club of Australia boats contesting the Milson Cup as part of that clubs’ Grant Thornton Short Ocean Pointscore.

Hell Razor this evening was declared provisional winner of the Milson Memorial Cup, decided on PHS handicaps, second and third place going to two CYCA boats,  Warwick Sherman’s Occasional Coarse Language Too and Adrian van Bellen’s Jackpot.

Warwick Sherman had a great day out - third on line, first in PHS Div 1 in the Grant Thornton Short Ocean Pointscore Series and third in IRC Div 1.

Blue Water Pointscore and Ocean Pointscore Survey – Have Your Say!

Since the 2011-2012 Blue Water Pointscore Season, the Sailing Committee has implemented a number of changes to the Blue Water Pointscore. Continued improvement and refinement of this series continues, and as such, the Sailing Committee is once again seeking feedback from you the competitor, on how to continue to improve the prestigious Blue Water Pointscore. The Sailing Committee is considering adding races with additional new and reintroduced courses into the Blue Water Pointscore series and are currently undertaking quite possibly the largest reorganisation of the Summer Sailing Calendar in recent years. The planned outcome is to allow yacht owners to enter in and compete in both the Blue Water Pointscore and the Ocean Pointscore series without missing multiple races, whilst allowing suitable rest time in between. The Sailing Committee is therefore keen to seek the feedback of yacht owners and crew alike within the Blue Water Pointscore and Ocean Pointscore series. The 2014-2015 Blue Water Pointscore Series is scheduled to commence with the Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race on 26 July 2014, and conclude with the 70th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race starting on 26 December 2014.

Owners, Skippers and Crew of yachts competing in the Blue Water Pointscore and Ocean Pointscore series are invited to participate in this survey Log on to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CYCA_Survey_2014_BWPS to complete the survey.

Your assistance in completing the survey prior to Friday 28 February 2014 is greatly appreciated.

The Sailing Committee looks forward to receiving your responses.

Vice Commodore John Cameron, Sailing Committee Chairman.
