Onshore Edition 94 - Monday 21 November
Message from the CEO

Another busy weekend out on the water starting on Friday afternoon with the Grant Thornton Short Haul Pointscore, and the Cabbage Tree Island Race - ‘Bravo’ Robbo Robertson on your victory.

And of course tonight is the Makers Mark Monday Twilight Race, and the Musto International Youth Match Racing Championship starting tomorrow: 22-25 November with 12 teams from 4 countries - a great line-up.

Reporting Marine Incidents
With it being such a busy time of the year on the water, competitors are reminded of their obligation to report Marine Incidents that result in injury to crew (requiring hospitalisation) or vessel damage in excess of $5000.

These incidents must be reported to the CYCA Sailing Manager (Tele: 8292 7804) justine.kirkjian@cyca.com.au and RMS within 48 hours of the incident. (p71 of CYCA Sailing Program refers).

It is requested that a protest is also lodged for incidents that occur as a result of a rule breach between boats.

RSHYR paper work
With around a third of the boats participating in this year’s race owned by CYCA Members, can I make a plea on behalf of the Sailing Office to lodge your paper work ASAP. We currently are sitting at 97 boats for the race. A preview of this year’s race is available on YouTube.

Barney the Penguin
The naming competition for our 2016 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race mascot, which drew 227 entries, was won by Tracey Johnstone.

As it’s a race between two cities, (ho-BAR-t & syd-NEY) we couldn’t go past ‘BARNEY.’

However there were some very creative entries which kept us amused in the office and here are some of the ‘celebrity’ honourable mentions - Kirk Penguilly, Sean Penn-Guin, Pen-Guin Stefani, Mr P. Enguin and Baz Straight.

Barney has been seen out and about the club from sipping Friday afternoon drinks on the deck and checking out the progress of races entries in the Sailing Office, to a range of on- water activities. Most recently he participated in the Cabbage Tree Island Race crewing for St Jude! (pictured is Barney pulling up the halyard before the start of the race.)

Welcome aboard Barney and congratulations Tracey! Replica ‘Barneys’ are available as part of the 2016 RSHYR merchandise range and can be purchased from Reception or at the Online Shop.
