Onshore Edition 95 - Monday 28 November
Message from the CEO

I managed to escape the confines of the office last Friday afternoon for a couple of hours to see CYCA’s Harry Price and his team of Harry Morton, Sam Ellis and Jack Hubbardgo 3-1 up in the finals of the Musto International Youth Match Racing Championship.

Whilst I didn’t see the actual victory ‘splash’ due to work commitments back at the club, it was great to get out on the water on such a glorious day to have rules and tactics explained to me by our YSA Head Coach, Jordan Reece, and watch the presentation back at the club later (pictured).

You can read all about the CYCA win against Harry’s long term-rival Will Dargaville from RPAYC here

Club Developments

The trek between the club and Woollahra Council has become a well-worn path of late with the DA for the Race Village submitted and approved for seven years, and our club refurbishment DA lodged recently.

Our new D Arm hydrant is now operational, and the installation of our new audio and AV system in the Club should be finalised this week.

RSHYR Update

The race planning gains momentum from this Wednesday with the media conference to launch the 2016 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race (RSHYR).

And then from next Monday, 5 December, the bump-in to convert the hardstand into a race village commences, with the set-up complete in time for pre-luncheon drinks for the Inaugural RSHYR Corporate luncheon on 9 December and the opening of the media centre.

The car park will be extra busy during the bump-in period so your co-operation during this time would be appreciated - no vans are to be parked in the car park adjacent to the club unless they are contractors parked temporarily for off-loads in relation to the bump-in.

Out ‘n About the Club

In a fitting lead up to this year's RSHYR, the CYCA was the venue last week for the launch of David Salter’s book on legendary sailor Syd Fischer, ‘Ragamuffin Man.’ Understandably there was a big turnout for this event hosted by Mike Carlton, with Sir James Hardy providing his own humorous sailing/Syd Fischer anecdotes.

In addition to this Wednesday’s media conference, this Saturday, 3 December, is the Blue Water Pointscore - Bird Island Yacht Race and the Grant Thornton Short Haul Race 8, followed on Sunday 4 December by the Annual Children’s Christmas Party run by the Associates Committee. RSVP deadline for this event is tomorrow, Tuesday 29th November.

In a CYCA Member's exclusive offer, Olympic Silver Medallist and YSA graduate Olivia Price is conducting a Q&A Panel on Tuesday 6 December with Niel Hunter, the skipper, as well as Performance Coach Andrew Walshy of Team Land Rover BAR! Included in the evening is a tour of their GC32, and lucky door prize of two double passes to go for a morning sail on 10 December, and receive Silver Pass hospitality for the rest of the day! Make sure you RSVP your attendence to the night here!!

On top of that hot offer, CYCA Members Silver Tickets special offer is available to this year’s event @ $250, which includes access and catering/drinks throughout the day. Don't miss out! Click Here to book your tickets.
