Australian Yachting Championship

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia will be hosting the Australian Sailing, Australian Yachting Championships this year.

The 2017 Australian Yachting Championships will run from the 23 - 26 March 2017. 

The IRC fleet will face a mixture of short course and passage races to decide the 2017 national champions.

The Australian Yachting Championships is the premier national IRC racing event that showcases high quality Keelboat racing.

This year’s event will consist of four days of racing off Sydney Heads comprising of two days of windward/leeward courses and two days of passage racing.

Like previous years racing will take place across the three divisions (Division 1, 2 and 3) with the boats size and ratings determining which division they will be assigned to.

Ocean Pointscore Race 3 - Port Hacking

The rain didn’t stop the fun being had in Race 3 of the Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore Series. The 20 knot north-westerly breeze provided a thrilling downwind run to Port Hacking, before the 14 boat fleet made their way back upwind towards Sydney Harbour.

Blue Water Race 4: GO overall winner as Black Jack takes line honours

Just months after purchasing the boat, Zoe Taylor’s Cookson 12, G.O., took the win in Race 4 of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s prestigious Blue Water Pointscore – the Cabbage Tree Island Race - topping IRC, ORCI and PHS divisions.

100-footer face off: Blue Water Pointscore continues with Race 4 – Cabbage Tree Island

A substantial fleet of 36 will battle it out in Race 4 of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Blue Water Pointscore - the Cabbage Tree Island Race - on Friday night, with a mouth-watering clash between Wild Oats XI and Black Jack set to be the main event.

Nine Dragons takes Race 3 of the Short Ocean Pointscore

It was a DK46 first and second in Race 3 of the Short Ocean Pointscore on Saturday, Bob Cox’s Nine Dragons taking the win and Andrew and Pauline Dalley’s Khaleesi second in Division 1, where just four points separate second to sixth in the overall standings.

Sensational Sydney on show for Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore Race 2

A fleet of 17 took to the water for Saturday morning’s Botany Bay Race, the second of the Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore, with the TP52 skippered by Ian Short, Fifty Two Hundred, securing the win in comfortable conditions.

CYCA School Holiday Course
The CYCA YSA is running the always engaging, school holiday sailing program next week! This course never disappoints, with kids learning practical sailing skills, technical sailing terms and rule applications, as well as cruising to Balmoral Beach and Watson's Bay throughout the week. A racing series is also held to consolidate all that is learnt during the course. Sailing in the Elliott 7's is a great experience, and the course is available to all skill levels, from beginners to technical sailors. Click here for more information on how to book! 2017 Australia Day Regatta
The 181st Australia Day Regatta and the City of Sydney Cup to Botany Bay is again conducted on Australia Day, 26 January 2017. Entry for the Sydney Harbour event is available here, and the entry for the City of Sydney Sesquicentenary Ocean Race to Botany Bay and return, can be found via the CYCA On-line Entry under 2016-2017 Summer Series. 

2018 Sydney Noumea Race
Following a sojourn of over 20 years, the CYCA is pleased to announce the reintroduction of the Sydney Noumea Race in 2018 - and the Notice of Race is available now here

2017 Members Badge Draw 
The first Members Badge Draw for 2017 will be this Thursday 12 January in Coaster's Retreat. A reminder that Members must be present at the CYCA clubhouse at the time their number is drawn. The first number will be drawn at 1815, followed by 1830 and 1845 with the final number being drawn at 1900. 

Twilight Racing recommences
The Club Marine Wednesday Night Twilight Series recommences this Wednesday 11 January at the CYCA, whilst the Maker's Mark Monday Night Twilight Series will return next week, 16 January. Come down and experience the beauty that is twilight racing at the CYCA.

Spirit of Cruising Dinner
All yachts Cruising to Tasmania for the Wooden Boat Festival and RYCT Van Diemens Land Circumnavigation, are invited to Rendezvous for a Dinner to celebrate Cruising at the Shipwrights Arms in Historic Battery Point, Hobart on February 9, 2017. Route planning, Communications, Weather routing and use of publications, like Rob’s Passage Planner and Tasmanian Cruising Guides, will be discussed. There are no formal requirements but all those with a well found yacht, a high level of safety and a Spirit of Cruising are invited.
