John and Ann Kirkjian’s Jarkan 38 Lady Ann has taken line honours and the PHS win in the Grant Thornton Short Haul Night Harbour Race last evening.
Starting half an hour prior to the Bird Island Blue Water
Pointscore race at 1830hrs, Principal Race Officer Denis Thompson
sent the fleet of 13 boats on course two which saw them sail up the
harbour to Junction Bell mark, after a start in Point Piper, before
returning to round Shark and Clark Island twice, back to Shark
Island and then to the finish in
Rushcutters Bay.
"It was a lovely evening on the Harbour with near perfect conditions for the Short Haul fleet - 10 to 12 knots of south easterly breeze and smooth seas," Thompson said.
"It was a very pleasant night race," John Kirkjian said. "We were in the right place at the right time, and I'm happy with the result.
"The breeze was a bit fluky - the most I saw was 14 knots and the least was about 4 knots. Once you got clear of the headlands, the breeze was better.
"We were chasing Ian (One More No More) around the course, but we did manage to get in front of him to take line honours" he added.
One More No More, Ian and Shane Guanaria's Beneteau First 35, finished second on line and in PHS to Lady Ann, yet came away with the IRC win.
Paul Billingham and Pete McGee's Bavaria 42 Match
Elusive placed third in PHS, whilst Jon
Short and Miles Bastick's Farr 34 MRX placed third in
IRC.
One More No More currently leads the IRC series pointscore from Lady Ann with MRX in third place.
Lady Ann currently leads the PHS series pointscore from InCahoots (Patrick and Roberta Easton) with Baltic Lady (Niel Burling) third.
