Julian Farren-Price's Cookson 50 About Time

Summer arrived a week early, with temperatures rising to formulate a beautiful seabreeze off the coast of Sydney Harbour. It was a perfect day for the Mount Gay Ocean Pointscore Series Passage Race to Lion Island, with the north easterly building breeze, providing champagne sailing conditions.

Cookson 50 About Time, owned by Julian Farren-Price won the IRC and ORCi divisions, taking the overall lead in the series after four races.

“I would have to say that the race at the weekend was one of the most lovely day sailing I’ve had in a while,” commented Farren-Price. “We had beautiful seas and a nice 8 knot breeze which built up to 12 knots over the course of the day.

“For us, it was straight line reaching up to Lion Island then we set our new Doyle code zero and I think that is what won us the race. We were pretty much able to go to Sydney on it and able to stay in the current. Most of our competitors flying spinnakers were forced closer to the beach,” he continued.

Also, helping them take the win, “We had a fantastic day, the crew work was perfect.”

“I couldn’t have dreamed that we could buy a new boat and be at the top of the table on the first Pointscore. It has exceeded my expectations,” Farren-Price ended.

Joseph Earl’s Merlin came in second on IRC, whilst Paul Clitheroe’s Balance was second on ORCi.

In PHS, Dong Quing’s Derucci was first, ahead of Ted Tooher’s Chancellor in second and Merlin in third.

Lillian Ni from Noah's Sailing Club where Derucci sails from, said that, "Last weekend, the weather was very good, and we reached a top speed of 12 knots. We operated at a high level and made almost no mistakes."

"It’s a good motivation for us to win PHS because we have been training hard and preparing well. We learn a lot from every mistake in our daily training. We are pleased with the result, as it's accumulating experience and strengthening our confidence," she ended.
