Khaleesi in action on Sydney Harbour

Light conditions greeted the Short Ocean Pointscore fleet on as they set sail from Sydney Harbour at noon on Saturday for Race 6 of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s event.

Keeping the pressure up on series leaders in IRC division 1, Ian Short’s TP 52, Fifty Two Hundred, was the DK46, Khaleesi, owned by Andrew and Pauline Dally. They topped their division in Saturday’s race ahead of Fifty Two Hundred with Howard Piggot’s Beneteau First 40, Flying Cloud, third.

For the weekend’s division toppers the result was welcome relief after a stressful few weeks, as co-owner Andrew Dally explained, “It’s been a massive journey for us over the last few weeks to be honest with you. At the Australian Yachting Championships in Melbourne we were slow in light winds and we couldn’t work it out. And then on Australia Day we were slow and we couldn’t work it. We turned ourselves inside out looking for reasons why."

"On the morning of the race this past Saturday we had a diver go down and have a look and whoever cleaned the boat last didn’t do a great job, our diver did it properly and we just took off. It was a massive massive relief.”

“It was soft at the weekend but we were rigged up for 6 knots and we sailed to 6 knots and the boat performed as we would have hoped for 6 knots.”

“There were a couple of shifts in there but it was what we had prepared for and it was a nice day with a blue sky. It wasn’t close racing but there were some challenges there and we delivered what we wanted."

"It was just such a massive relief. We thought we were doing something so wrong and to have worked it out finally and got it sorted, it was a huge weight off.”

On IRC division 2 Matt Wilkinson’s Foreign Affair finished top ahead of Ed Psaltis’ Midnight Rambler while on PHS division 1  Phil Herscovics’ Sydney 38, Shine On, finished top with Wilkinson’s Foreign Affair picking up more silverware on PHS division 2.
