2015 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Launch

On Friday 18 December the 2015 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race was welcomed in style with 150 guests enjoying a sophisticated cocktail function on Fort Denison, Sydney Harbour - one of the city’s most unique and iconic locations.

Launch product supporters Champagne Mumm ensured that everyone got in the spirit of the event enjoying a glass of the best during the trip to the venue.

Both states were symbolically recognised with the flying of the NSW State flag and Tasmanian State flag on the Fort’s flag mast.  The Tasmanian flag was sent up from the Premier’s office especially for the launch.

Mother Nature was in full glory with the weather turning out to be picture perfect for the occasion delivering a sensational sunset.

During the formalities MC Gordon Bray AM and Commodore John Cameron provided an entertaining repartee with some of racing’s high profile skippers invited to provide some wonderful and priceless anecdotes on their ocean racing experiences, and their thoughts and preparations on the upcoming race.

These included; Roger Hickman skipper of Wild Rose the 2014 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race winner; Sir Robin Knox-Johnston world renowned skipper and the first man to perform a single-handed non-stop circumnavigation of the globe also representing the Clipper Fleet of 12 yachts joining the race.

Syd Fischer from Ragamuffin 100 attended with grandson Brenton Fischer who will be skippering the Ragamuffin TP52; Adrienne Cahalan champion navigator on board Perpetual Loyal and Tony Cable who will be competing in his fiftieth race come Boxing Day.

 “It was with great pleasure that I represented the CYCA in hosting the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Launch,” said CYCA Commodore John Cameron.

“The evening, set under the gun tower of Fort Denison opened in 1857 for the protection of Port Jackson, was an outstanding success and set the standard for future years - a combination of history and future in the making suitable for an international event such as the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.”
