Volunteering @ CYCA

Volunteer Race Officials required

The CYCA is actively seeking to expand the pool of volunteer Race Officials, team members and mark layers to assist with the on-water Race Management of the CYCA's busy racing calendar.

Ongoing training in Mark Laying, flags and results recording is available as is an option to undertake State / National Race Officer training.

A minimum fortnightly commitment throughout the Land Rover Winter Series is greatly sought after, along with participation in the on-water race management of the Club Marine Wednesday Twilight Series.

Volunteers who are able to commit to a reasonable number of dates may find themselves lucky enough to be called upon to assist in the race management (and therefore on the starting line) for the Land Rover Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race or even the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia maintains a standard of excellence that stems from a dedicated staff, Board of Directors and the assistance of volunteers.

You don't have to be an active sailor to participate in the many events that are conducted out of the CYCA. There are a variety of interesting roles that can be undertaken that are an integral part of a successful event or function.

For many years the CYCA has been utilising volunteers to race manage weekend races for Club boats through to being involved in the starting procedures of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Volunteers on the Club's start boat Offshore enjoy learning race management skills and the camaraderie that comes with being part of a team that has many varied responsibilities.

Volunteers also assist with regattas run by the Youth Sailing Academy in a variety of ways - from umpiring match racing through to providing accommodation and cooking breakfasts for visiting teams.

A team of hard working volunteers make up the 'Breakfast Club' that has been cooking hearty breakfasts for the CYCA Winter Series crews and at other fundraising functions for many years. The Breakfast Club generously donate their proceedings back to the Club to buy items that benefit the members.

Volunteers make up CYCA Cruising and the Associates and indeed all members of the CYCA's Committees volunteer their time to assist their Club.

In December, the CYCA runs a liaison program for volunteers to meet and greet interstate and overseas crews competing in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and to staff the information centre that becomes a focal point for obtaining information on local yacht services and general services.

With so many sailing and social events scheduled throughout the year there is no shortage of opportunities to volunteer your services. So what are you waiting for?
