Closing Ladies Day Race this coming Sunday

The BMW Sydney Winter Series for 2006 will conclude this Sunday, 23 July, with the Closing Ladies Day Race, one of only two specific races on the CYCA calendar for women-only helmspersons.

More than 80 boats have entered, while casual entries will be received by the CYCA no later than Wednesday, 19 July, by 1700 hours.  Crews may include male sailors, but a female sailor must helm the boat throughout the race.

Many women competed in the BMW Sydney Winter Series pointscore races,  several as a co-owners and in key crewing position, including helming.

Among the most successful was Dawn Riley who helmed the Sonata 8 Umbakumba to a hard-fought victory in Division F, while Jean Guanaria is co-owner, with husband Ian, of Georgia Express, the overall winner in Division E.

The Closing Ladies Day Race will start from 12 noon on Sunday, with two spinnaker and two non-spinnaker divisions.
