Club Marine Wednesday Twilight Series Race 17

Bruce Waugh’s Kookaburra took out the top spot in Division A, closely followed by Laurence Freedman’s Espresso Forte in second and Phil Herscovics’ Shine On in third place, just once second behind on corrected time.

Eye Appeal, in Division B, was the only yacht called over the line early for the evening, but returned behind the line to restart a minute later than the rest of the fleet.

Tim Ryan’s Vamos took the win by a few seconds in Division B, and he and his crew were pretty happy about it, taking away a great Club Marine sailing bag as first prize.

Ryan’s crew commented, “Twilights have always been good here, especially on a night like this. The weather came out to play, there was good wind, and then winning – well that adds the whipped cream and cherry on top of the cake!”

“There’s no better place to be on a Wednesday than twilighting at the CYCA,” added Ryan. Ed Psaltis’ Midnight Rambler and George Waldthausen’s Superfine rounded out the podium in Division B.

The Division C winner was Quattro, with Pilgrim and Holy Cow! taking second and third place overall in the 18 boat fleet – the second biggest of the evening.

The battle at the start for Division D was tough, with Applejack within centimetres of the line at the gun. They were no match though for Moya, owned by Steve Watson, who was first over the line in the division, and took the overall win as well. Second place went to Liberte, skippered by Michael Wolff, with third going to Carl Sriber’s Suraya.

The Club Marine Wednesday Twilight Series continues through until 29 March 2017, with great prizes to be won every week in each of the four divisions. The series is open to sailors and members who love the sport, and described by the crew of Vamos; “I started coming here for twilights three years ago, it’s a great vibe, so anyone that’s thinking about sailing, come down and get on board!”
